Shorttakes

thanksgiving

So, tell the truth.  How many of you get up to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?  Aside from me.  I LOVE that parade.  Also the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Years Day. Attending those 2 parades would definitely tick a couple boxes on my bucket list (if I made one).  And living this close to NYC, you might ask what's stopping me.  Uh, it's COLD outside in November.  And the older I get, the less I am willing to voluntarily be cold.  So I'll watch from my sofa in my jammies.  Now, New Years Day in Pasadena is a different story...

Amazingly, this Thanksgiving will NOT find me frantically kitting up the Christmas freebie.  Mary Anne & Phyllis kitted them all up on Tuesday & they are ready to go (& for that I am BEYOND thankful)!  If you don't know what I mean, each year we design & give away a free kit with each purchase, beginning on the Friday after Thanksgiving.  It's just a small way we try to thank all y'all for your loyalty (& your fun & your smiling faces & your stories & your Apple Cakes ~ lookin' at you Kathy Q!).  Anyway, we have a whole herd of 'em kitted up & ready to go. We'll give them away until we run out & even then you can still get the chart.

This year's design fits onto one of the new medium size sleds from Foxwood Crossing.  These new sleds are just as adorable as the small ones, but they'd be great for a little mantel centerpiece or the center of a wreath or maybe the front of your Christmas card basket....the possibilities are endless, particularly as it's not screaming meemie Christmas.  Also, be warned ~ yes, Beth really did design it.  I know you won't believe it, but it's true.  So don't drop over from shock!  Without further ado....

let it snow

I'm approaching it like rain: if I stitch snow (ie, if I have my umbrella) it won't snow (or rain)!

We'll be open on Friday & Saturday, from 10AM to 5PM.  And while it seems that the focus of Friday & Saturday is on starting your Christmas shopping, we hope you'll want to stop but & pick up a treat for yourself!  As a little extra smile, purchases on Friday & Saturday are all 20% off.

AND THEN, there's Cyber Monday, which "the experts" now say has become more of a Cyber Sunday-ish thing.  And who are we to argue with the experts?  But you know us, we like to do it our own way.  So if you order online Friday thru Monday, everything is 20% off ~ UNLESS you want us to KIT IT!

No, not KITTY it....KIT IT!  ....sorry, couldn't resist....it's getting late, can you tell??

Yes, it was super popular last year, so we thought, why not bring it back?  So if you tell us to KIT IT, that project will be 25% off.  For all your KIT IT's, they'll be kitted with the original supplies when at all possible. If however, the fabrics are overly difficult to get, we'll substitute something as close to the original as possible.  The same goes for fibers, mostly overdyed silks that may be difficult to get.  Now, having said that, if you have a preference regarding fabrics (you like 32ct NOT 40ct linen, OR you prefer aida instead of linen), just let us know!  Same goes for fibers (if you prefer DMC to silk, let us know; if you prefer overdyed cottons to overdyed silks, let us know).  If we have questions, we'll be sure to email you.

And speaking of emails, that is the BEST WAY to contact us ~ especially over a busy crazy shopping weekend!

After all the other yip yap here, I come back to community.  Saturday is Small Business Saturday.  It would be hypocritical to say we could all go back to a time when every business was a small local business.  I know I wouldn't want to.  However, small independent businesses are the fabric of a community. While they may have good intentions, do you think the owners of Target try to remember the names of the folks who come thru the door?  Or get excited over FINALLY putting a face with a name of a mail order customer (even though it seems like we've known them forever?)?  Do you think the CEO of Amazon knows when one of his customers gets married & gets excited to see the pictures?  Or appreciates the newest grandchild who will be celebrating their first Christmas (with a new stocking!)?.  I'm guessing they're all way too far away from most of their customers to know anything about them ~ it's not that they're bad people, they just don't have that connection.

And after all the latest tragedies we've watched unfold lately, there's a part of me that thinks we need a MORE involved community, instead of less.  Many of us grew up knowing that we could walk to a friend's house because every single house along the way was keeping an eye on you.  And they were willing to keep you safe (even if it pissed you off).  If someone sketchy was hanging out in your neighborhood, that "network" alerted the rest & if it got worse, they sounded the alarm.  They weren't afraid of angering a "bad guy" because they were a community.  We've moved away from that in the name of being politically correct.

Yes I know I've wandered away from business.  But small businesses ARE a part of your community.  Don't let them disappear because it's just easier to drive to a big super store where you can stock up.  Be a part of your community ~ wherever you are.  If you live in St Charles, MO then check out the awesome shops down by the river.  If you live in Chagrin Falls, OH don't miss all the wonderful Christmas decorations & the darling shops in town.  Don't pass them by, thinking, oh well, I was only going to get 1 thing, they won't miss my purchase.  If anything, it's the opposite ~ the superstores have enough economies of scale that 1 sale won't make or break them. But small businesses need & appreciate every sale ~ you are important to them.  So be their community!

Above all, give thanks for who you are, where you are, who loves you, and just the fact that you woke up in a warm bed & have food to eat.  That's big.

We are thankful for you ~ each & every single one of you, whether we see you once a week or once a year or only virtually!  So you can count yourself appreciated!

Hugs & stitches ~
